The Neurophysiology of Movement
Picture
1.  The brain sends an electrical signal through the nerves.

2.  The nerves carry the electrical signal to the muscles, causing them to contract.

3.  When muscles contract, we move.

4.  The brain evaluates whether or not the movement or position is safe.  It asks itself, "is this a threat?"
The Neurophysiology of Pain
5.  If the answer to #4 is yes, the brain starts limiting our ability to move by making you feel:
  • Pain
  • Numbness
  • Tingling
  • Tightness
  • Limited range of motion

6.  Often times, the brain perceives a threat even when a movement is perfectly safe, resulting in nagging aches and pains.

7.  When this occurs, we consider one of the parts in the above system (brain, nerves, muscles, movement) to be "sensitized".  In other words, the brain isn't trusting that it can use the system safely.
Neuro Therapy's Role
8.  In Neuro Therapy, we find these sensitized areas, whether it be the nerves or the muscles, and convince the brain that it's safe to move through a full range of motion.  In other words, there's no reason for it to be interpreted as a threat.

9.  Once the brain no longer interprets the movement to be a threat - pain, numbness, tingling, and tightness start to dissipate, while range of motion increases... and you get back your life.
The Neuro Therapy Process
Step 1:
The Search
Direct current electrical stimulation is used to identify neurologically sensitized areas of the body.

Neurologically sensitized areas of the body can contribute to:

  • Improper movement patterns
  • Persistent pain and discomfort
  • Repeat and nagging injuries
  • Muscles not activating correctly
  • Limited mobility
  • Performance plateaus
Step 2:
Electricity + Exercise
Electrical stimulation is combined with exercise to desensitize the area and re-train the muscles to work properly.

Combining electricity + exercise helps you to:

  • Decrease pain and discomfort
  • Eliminate compensation patterns
  • Increase mobility
  • Increase range of motion
  • Increase ability to create power
  • Break through plateaus
Step 3:
Feel Results
Test out movements and track your progress!

Depending on your goals, we'll track progress in a variety of areas:

  • Pain levels during movement
  • Range of motion
  • Gait analysis
  • Core strength & stability
  • Balance
  • Customized strength testing
